Money versus Sanity
Have you ever heard a song that stopped you in your tracks? I did… and not only did it stop me, but I quickly logged into my iTunes account and bought it. The words were written just for my ears, I know it wasn’t but, boy oh boy, it sure did give me a message when I needed it.
I spend a lot of my time listening to Margaritaville and the new No Shoes Radio…. so I know most of the songs, but “I Lived” by OneRepublic just was what I needed the other day. If you are not familiar with the song it’s an anthem about taking chances and stepping out on faith. Just the kind of song you need to hear when you are working on selling it all and moving to Key West.
My mom is all about fate. All things happen for a reason, you are where you are supposed to be …. you know the line of thinking. Anyway, we are working through our plan of moving to Key West and have a timeline in mind for the permanent move, but a perfect job has come on the horizon. So, plans be damned, an application has been submitted. We shall keep our fingers crossed.
So, fate stepped in and put before us a great opportunity, but part of the decision on whether to move forward was we still needed to clean up a few things (including a kid who decided to quit his full-time job and go back to school). This became part of the discussion, do we apply? don’t we apply? Then, let’s just say Fate, decided to play “I Lived” and it was quite easy to throw in the application.
The prophetic words of the song that caught my ear were:
“I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things I did”
Can you imagine owning every second the world gave? You are in charge of your own destiny. Yep, that was defining. Of course I knew the song was totally about Key West because later on it says:
“And when the sun goes down, hope you raise your cup”
Come on, where else but Key West would you raise a cup to sunset?
Anyway, we walked through the pros and cons and asked the kids their thoughts. Remember, they joined us in Key West a few months back to see it for themselves. They both have been bit by Key West fever. The Key’s sand has made it to their shoes and they want to move there …..now. So, we have the blessings of our kids and parents, now just keeping our fingers crossed the job works out.
As to our next big thing? We want to build up Fun In Key West to be the best place for you to find information about the Island you love so much. We spend a lot of time researching restaurants, bars, activities and places to stay so we only give you the best of the best. Time is so limited when you are on vacation, we want to provide you with only the very best. Keep checking in with us, as we continue to add more and more great ideas on where to go while in Key West.
As I am writing this, OneRepublic is playing in the background… this time it’s “Counting Stars” another great song about going for it and pursuing your dreams.
“Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things we could be
But baby, I’ve been, I’ve been praying hard
Said no more counting dollars we’ll be counting stars”
Would you give up the security of a great job to pursue your dream? Would you give up the money to save your sanity? I say …. hell yes! I no longer jump up out of bed ready to start the day. I linger and work on the website, researching great places, great recipes to share with you. So, I know it’s time for me to move on, to chase the dream and make Key West my permanent home, sooner than later. My sanity is worth much more than the money.
