There are three main beaches to choose from in Key West.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park – We took some of the best sunset pictures from here. The beach is quiet and offers a sandy beach area, picnic tables under the pine trees, and, of course you can walk around the old fort. Well worth the gate entrance fee. The beach is within walking distance from Old Town. The state park offers day rentals for beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling equipment, and has a changing room and snack bar. We walked to the park and rented all the beach items. Before entering the park we stopped by a sandwich shop across the street from the Green Parrot Bar to get our lunch to bring to the beach. The park is a great place to take photographs of the sunset. The park closes at dark.
Smathers Beach & Rest Beach- This is the largest public beach in Key West. It is on the Atlantic side and offers all that you would need while at the beach. Each time I have been here the wind is blowing as you are on the windward side of the Island. Food vendors are available along the street parking area. Rentals for boats, chairs and gear is available. Bike racks are available to lock up your bikes. Free parking across the street. Also, S. Roosevelt Blvd has a large sidewalk along Smathers Beach. Many use this sidewalk for walking, running, and biking.
Higgs Beach – Located off of Atlantic Blvd next to the Key West Garden Club.
South Beach – Located at the Southern End of Duval Street on the Gulf side. This is a small beach to enjoy sunning and swimming. Beach chairs are available to rent. Also has a snack bar available.
