Maybe I am the only one who ends up walking or biking much farther than I had originally anticipated. The last time I did this, our walk ended up at Higgs Beach. Keep in mind, we started the walk in Old Town. So, by the time we made it over to the beach, I was… hungry. I know, imagine that. But, lucky for us, we were able to find a table at Salute! On The Beach. Yay!
This Key West institution is located on Higgs Beach between White Street Pier and Casa Marina. And, when I say on the beach, it really is on the beach.
Salute! On The Beach is the sister restaurant to Blue Heaven. So, if you are a true fan of Blue Heaven, you will be an instant fan of Salute!. This place serves Italian food prepared with “Island lifestyle and tastes in mind”. Which means, lighter Caribbean influenced dishes served with fresh bread, vegetables and, of course, local seafood.
The restaurant serves lunch daily 11:30 to 4:30 and dinner 5 pm – 9:30. The bar is open 11 am to 10:30 pm.
We opted for the fresh seafood salads for lunch, these were the daily specials. They were just as tasty as they looked. Keep in mind, it was a bit warm outside, so this lighter fare was very welcoming. As for our drinks, I chose the Blueberry Lemonade. This adult beverage is definitely one I would drink again… and again. Made with blueberry vodka and housemade lemonade, it was refreshing, light and very, very tasty. Not a big blueberry fan? Me neither, but trust me, this one is worth the try. Kevin.. well, he opted for his standby, the ol’ Gin and Tonic.
As you can see, it was a wonderful lunch. Great view, great food, and awesome drinks. However, you end up at Salute! On The Beach, be prepared to enjoy the great food, the great food, and the awesome drinks!
