This is my Mom’s Apple Cream Pie recipe. It is a great way to use up any extra apples.
Step 1: Prepare your pie crust. For this recipe you will only need a single pie crust. I am not the best at making pie crust, so I will confess I use store bought. (Nobody has every noticed – so shhhhh… it’s our secret) For this recipe you will need a deep dish pie pan.
Step 2: Peel, core and dice into bite size pieces about 6 apples (about 3 pounds total) I use a combination of Granny Smith and Golden Delicious – but feel free to use whatever you have on hand. Toss the apples with the 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon cloves and then put apples into pie crust.
Step 3: Mix 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup butter (cold and crumbled up) until crumbly with a pastry blender. Crumble over the top of the pie.
Bake about 45 minutes at 350 degrees. At this point, pour slowly about 1/2 – 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream over the pie (I have used half and half or skim milk if I didn’t have heavy whipping cream on hand). Bake another 15 minutes.
Let the pie cool before serving. Serve with a scoop of ice cream. You can try our Quick and Easy Homemade Ice Cream recipe.
